The route from Turkey to Qatar

Goods for Qatar go by road across Saudi Arabia to Abu Samra, Qatar's only land border, or by sea to Hamad Port. Under the Türkiye–Qatar trade agreement many Turkish goods now pay 0% duty.

Since March 2026 the Strait of Hormuz has been mostly shut, and the big container lines still avoid it; a small container ship sank there in October 2026. Containers for Hamad Port now reach it on small feeder ships inside the Gulf, with delays. The road through Saudi Arabia to Abu Samra stays open. We confirm the best route when you order.

By road

Through Iraq under TIR (in at Habur – Ibrahim Khalil, into Saudi Arabia at Jdeidat Arar) or through Syria and Jordan, then across Saudi Arabia to Abu Samra. In May 2026 DHL listed that crossing as open day and night, taking 24 to 48 hours. Each border has its own rules, so we confirm the route when you order.

By sea

From Mersin to Hamad Port. A full container just for you, or space in a shared one.

Normally about 30 days from Mersin with transhipment (schedule estimate). Now Maersk, for one, lands Qatar cargo at Salalah or Khor Fakkan, trucks it to Sharjah and sends it on by feeder ship inside the Gulf. As of October 2026 it has paused truck bookings to Qatar from Jeddah, Salalah and Sohar.

Papers: what we prepare and what Qatar asks for

We prepare in Turkey

  • Commercial invoiceEvery model, its quantity and price.
  • Packing listWhat is in each carton, its weight and size, from the inspection.
  • Certificate of originQatar Customs asks for a certificate of origin stamped by a Turkish chamber. For goods on the agreement's lists, an EUR.1 or an origin declaration on the invoice is what gets the 0% duty; it's valid for four months from issue.

What Qatar asks of you

  • Import licenceOnly Qatari companies and citizens can import. The importer needs an import licence and a place on the Importers' Register at Qatar Chamber, and can import only what its commercial registration covers.Official site
  • Stamped invoice and certificate of originCustoms rules ask for an original invoice and certificate of origin stamped by a Turkish chamber or exporters' association and by a Qatari consulate, or by Qatar's Foreign Ministry after arrival. With no chamber stamp, customs charges 1% of the invoice. The agreement says consular steps aren't required for originating goods, so ask your broker which stamps apply.Official site
  • Product and food approvalsToys and low-voltage electrical goods need the Gulf G-mark. Vehicle spare parts, tyres and some household electricals need a conformity certificate, or customs won't release them. Food needs a health certificate for the shipment, stamped by a Qatari consulate, and the importer must be registered with the Ministry of Public Health.

Trade agreement and duties

The Türkiye–Qatar Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement has been in force since 1 August 2025. Goods on Qatar's lists, including much clothing, home textiles, footwear and furniture, pay 0% with an EUR.1 or origin declaration. Other goods pay the GCC tariff: 5% of the CIF value on most goods, 0% on basics such as wheat, rice and fresh produce, and 100% on tobacco; Qatar has no VAT.

Before you order goods for Qatar

  • Every piece and carton needs a permanent 'Made in Türkiye' mark that matches the invoice and certificate of origin, and the invoice must show the HS code. Removable stickers aren't accepted, and goods with no origin mark can't enter.
  • The 0% rate applies only if the product's tariff line is on Qatar's lists, the goods stay under customs control in transit countries, and the proof of origin reaches customs within four months. Ask your broker to check the tariff line before you order.
  • Alcohol, pork and e-cigarettes are banned. Food labels must be in Arabic, or Arabic and English, with dates on the original label, not a sticker. Qatar's foot-and-mouth rule has kept out Turkish UHT milk and white cheese, so check before ordering dairy.
